NEW! In-Person Summer Retreat for Those Experienced in Contemplative Dance/Authentic Movement

July 10-15, 2022

Hampshire College, Amherst, MA

Faculty: Daphne Lowell and Alton Wasson

We are excited to gather in person for the first time in three years, and to return to the beautiful Hampshire College studios and campus. This 5-day retreat might be a reunion for you, and a wonderful opportunity to meet with practitioners you haven’t yet met. We believe that we can offer this retreat safely in person with these COVID prevention protocols in place.*

Each morning will begin with a guided movement meditation led by Daphne, accompanied by John Sprague. We’ll move next into an hour-long round robin, with creative forming, and sharing in peer and/or faculty-led small groups. Each afternoon we’ll offer a two-hour session to explore the practice in additional ways, such as moving and witnessing in nature, active imagination play in various art media, work with partners, moving the question, or other ways yet to be discovered. During the week there will also be time to reflect on the practice in Contemplative Dialogues and eat lunches and perhaps a supper or two together outdoors. New this year, evenings will be open, and we will not host on-campus housing.

Hampshire College’s 800-acre campus features beautiful orchards, woods, meadows and scenic hiking trails in the heart of rural New England, only a few hours away from New York City and Boston. Two beautiful, clean, air-conditioned, sprung-floored studios provide ample space for the workshop.

*COVID Protocols, following Hampshire College’s: Participants must document full vaccination (completing an approved COVID-19 vaccine series and a booster shot), and a negative PCR test within 72 hours before arrival, and negative antigen tests on July 10 and July 12; wear masks and maintain distance indoors; do daily symptom checks and not attend if any symptoms are present.

COVID and its safety protocols might change before this retreat, so ours might change, but as of now, we require all to commit to follow these protocols during the July workshop in order to register.
